Mike's Glass – Success Story

Glass is much stronger than many metals. It can protect you from heat, light and radiation, but used wrongly it can be very unforgiving. When it comes to safety, there’s no room for compromise.
Accidents around the home involving glass are all too common and the danger is magnified all the more if you have children. People traffic makes some areas of your home a lot riskier than others and wet areas and stair wells can be particularly hazardous. If your home was built prior to the 1990s it is very likely that little safety glass would have been installed. Safety standards today require that all new homes must have safety glass in “high-risk” areas, but what is not commonly known is that, when glass in wet areas and stairwells breaks in ANY home, those standards – and they’ve been in force since 1999 – say THE GLASS MUST ONLY BE REPLACED WITH SAFETY GLASS.
You’ll know if it is safety glass that’s been installed by the little badge embossed in the pane at time of manufacture. A distinctive's surrounded by the manufacturer’s details.
The regulations don’t go as far as stipulating replacing with safety glass in all the locations where accidents may occur in your home, but for the safety of your family and the peace of mind safety glass brings, it’s worth going that little bit further and paying the extra, say Mike and Sue Anders of Mike’s Glass.
“It’s a question of what value you put on the life of your children basically,” Mike says. “It’s too late once the damage is done.” There are bound to be areas in your home where installing safety glass will provide added protection and peace of mind for you and your family. Full-height windows in family rooms and bedrooms for example, or glass doors, table tops, shelves, pool balustrading. They can all be upgraded with the right safety glass.

The crew at Mike’s Glass are keen to see people are made aware of what safety regulations require, because they are not widely known regulations. But more than that, as a company that has been serving the greater Wellington area for more than 18 years now, they have been first on the scene after some pretty horrific accidents with glass, so they are very keen to see family homes made as safe as they can be, to avoid repeating such traumas.
Mike’s Glass is the longest serving glazing business to have operated under the same name and under the same operator in the greater Wellington area.
“It’s a business built on service,” Mike and Sue Anders say. “We pride ourselves on our level of service above all else.” They cover anywhere and everywhere offering a nationwide service – they have 500 glaziers up and down NZ they can call on. With five full time tradesmen glaziers, an apprentice and a fleet of vans operating in the Wellington region Mike’s Glass believe they offer the only true 24-hour, seven-days-a-week callout service around.
“We have a dedicated after hours glazier who starts work at 5.30pm each night,” Sue Anders says. “There’s none of this being tired after a days work and having to make a callout. Our man is coming to you fresh during his normal day’s work.”
In all callouts Mike’s Glass set out to give the quickest response they possibly can. 30 minutes is their goal but if they are already on other emergencies it may take longer.
As part of their push to raise people’s awareness of safety glass requirements Mike’s Glass have consultants who, for a reasonable fee, will come to your home or business and carry out a risk assessment analysis for you. Call 0800 375 111 It’s that easy. The consultant will advise you on what you need to do to meet local body requirements and any further changes you could make to enhance your family’s safety around the home or customer/worker safety in your business.
One of the saddest phrases in the English language is “if only”. Don’t end up thinking if only. Give Mike’s Glass a call now, it could be the most important call you make.
